Help with rejection sensitivity

It is not thin skin. It is a disproportionate, fast, physical response to perceived rejection β€” and for many ADHD adults it is the most disabling part of the whole picture.

Help with rejection sensitivity

What RSD actually does

A neutral email, a short reply, a colleague's tone β€” and the floor drops out. The response arrives before any thinking does, which is why 'they probably didn't mean it' is useless in the moment. Recovery can take hours or days.

  • Physical drop at any hint of criticism
  • People-pleasing to prevent it happening
  • Avoiding feedback, applications or auditions
  • Rage or shutdown following the initial hit

Reducing intensity and recovery time

The realistic goal is not zero reactivity. It is a smaller spike and a shorter recovery. Hypnotic regulation work targets the spike; processing work targets the early rejections that calibrated the system this high.

Diagnosis is not required

You can work on this whether you are diagnosed, self-identified, or sitting on an assessment waiting list. Nothing here depends on a piece of paper.

Common questions

Is RSD an official diagnosis?+

No β€” it is a widely described pattern within ADHD rather than a formal diagnostic category. It is still very workable.

Does medication fix it?+

For some people stimulant medication reduces it considerably. That is a prescriber decision; the therapy runs alongside.

Can therapy help if I am autistic as well?+

Yes. AuDHD presentations are common here and the work is adjusted for both.
