Therapy for Autistic Adults in Derby
Being autistic isn't the problem being worked on here. The work is about burnout, the cost of masking, and everything that built up during the years before you had language for it.

Affirming means what it says
Autism isn't treated as something to fix, cure or train out of you. Sessions are adapted instead: predictable structure, explicit explanation of anything I'm about to do, flexibility on eye contact and small talk, and written summaries if holding things in your head is hard. You set the sensory conditions of the room. Nothing about the process depends on you performing neurotypical.
What this can help with
- βAutistic burnout and loss of capacity
- βMasking fatigue and the identity questions that follow
- βProcessing a late identification or diagnosis
- βSensory overload and recovery afterwards
- βMeltdown and shutdown aftermath
- βSocial exhaustion in work environments
- βShame carried from years of being misread
- βAnxiety layered on top of unmet access needs
How sessions are structured
- Step 1
Set the conditions
We agree lighting, session length, breaks, and how much talking versus quiet suits you before anything therapeutic starts.
- Step 2
Reduce the load
Practical work on demands, recovery time and boundaries β because capacity usually has to come back before anything else moves.
- Step 3
Work with the history
Where you want to, hypnotherapy or EMDR to process the years of being misunderstood, at whatever pace suits your system.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a formal diagnosis?+
No. Self-identifying or awaiting assessment is fine. I don't assess or diagnose autism β that sits with specialist assessment services.
How is this different from your neurodivergent therapy page?+
That page covers autistic, ADHD and AuDHD adults together. This one focuses specifically on autistic experience β burnout, masking and sensory load.
Will I be asked to make eye contact?+
Never. Look wherever is comfortable, including away from the screen in online sessions.
Can sessions be shorter or longer?+
Session length can be discussed. Some clients do better with shorter, more frequent contact.
Do you offer online sessions?+
Yes, across the UK β often easier if travel and unfamiliar rooms are a significant cost for you.
