Help with medical trauma

Treatment that saved your life can still leave a mark. Being grateful and being traumatised are not mutually exclusive.

Help with medical trauma

What medical trauma covers

Intensive care admissions and ICU delirium, cancer diagnosis and treatment, resuscitation, awake procedures, misdiagnosis, and being disbelieved by clinicians. Also the appointments you now cannot attend because the building itself triggers you.

  • Flashbacks to a ward, a scan or a procedure
  • Avoiding follow-up appointments
  • Panic at clinical smells or sounds
  • Anger at how you were treated or spoken to

Getting you back through the door

A practical priority is often simply attending necessary follow-up care. That is treated as an early, concrete goal rather than something to arrive at eventually.

Processing without re-traumatising

EMDR handles fragments β€” a sound, an image, a sentence someone said β€” rather than requiring a full account of a long admission.

Common questions

My treatment was years ago. Is it too late?+

No. Older medical trauma reprocesses in exactly the same way.

Can this help with scan anxiety?+

Yes, and it is a common concrete goal β€” getting through the MRI, the endoscopy, the mammogram.

Will I have to talk about the whole admission?+

No. We work with specific target moments, chosen by you.
